By now you know how much we love chocolate at The Chocolate Truffle, but with that delightful sweet bite of chocolatey goodness, we can’t help but think about what to pair it with. Coconut, nuts, fruits and jellies — they’re all delicious. But could it get any better than chocolate and chips? That salty crispy crunchy chocolate combo just had to come to life, and it did with our yummy potato chip poppers. They’re so good we just had to keep talking about chips. The chip all started with a complaint. That’s right, a complaint! Who could ever complain about a potato chip you ask? Well, it all started in Saratoga Springs, NY. Chef George Crum placed a plate of French-fried potatoes that just weren’t crisp enough for its recipient Cornelius Vanderbilt. Sending his plate back over and over gave rise to the thinnest crispiest chip he’d ever seen … and absolutely loved. Okay, so there are some sources saying this story might not be true, but either way, we have the wonderful potato chip, so we’re happy!

It’s a widely accepted opinion that we all wish potato chip bags were filled to the top with delightful crispy chips, but there happens to be a good reason for all that extra space. The air acts as a cushion of nitrogen that protects your chips from breaking into pieces and keeps them nice and fresh!

Did you know there was a time when potato chips were almost wiped off the map? During World War II, potato chips were declared an unessential food, and production was halted in the United States. Protesters sure had a lot to say and production was started again to please the masses, resulting in better sales than ever.

Apparently, chips are on everyone’s minds, including scientists! Professor William E. Lee spent six years studying the crunchiness of chips and what qualities make them the most satisfying to bite! And if that wasn’t enough chip science, the reason we have ruffled or chips with ridges is because chip consumers needed a sturdier chip that wouldn’t break when dipped.
